Mike Deasy Newsletter - March 1999

Greetings...as I send this letter of "comfort" to you, Mike is on his way to India with a team to minister the gospel with his unique, tool of music. Pastor Rajah Selvaraj from France set-up meetings for Mike, because of the music, different than anyone has been able to do in that part of the world, in schools where he will have liberty to share Jesus, near the biggest Hindu Temple in the world.

I say, "Get 'em, God"!!!

We thank you for your prayer and will have some wonderful news in the next letter. The Bible says that comfort is consoling and encouraging. We don't think about how encouraging it can be but it brings hope and relief of distress. It seems that in our travels all over this world, we find the church and the public need relief. The new buzz word is stress or stressful. When I was younger, it was called pressure. Whatever it wants to be called, we have the answer, comfort.

2 Corinthians 1: 3&4 says, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of ALL comfort ". The Amplified Bible says, "God (Who is the Source) of every comfort, Who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God". NIV

God has comforted me endless times, even now, while Mike is in India for 2 weeks, but the main thing I take from those times is to GIVE IT AWAY, like He said in His Word in verse 4 "...so that we can comfort those in any trouble". The thing is, you never run out of comfort, even if you give it away, everyday, and there are so many opportunities. The things of God never run out!

As I was studying this teaching God has given me about comfort, I was taking an airplane ride to a Women's Conference where I had planned to teach it and was seated next to a man in his 40's who was terrified of flying. He had the armrests of his seat in such a grip that his fingers were white. He was leaning his head on the seat in front of him and had a terrible look on his face, saying, quietly, "we're going to die, we're going to die"! I looked over at him, noticed his condition, and asked him if he was okay? He told me again, "we're going to die, I hate flying". I laughed and said, "I'm not laughing at you, I just want to tell you, I know how you feel, I used to be afraid to fly." I asked him if he believes in God, he responded, "well, I think there's something up there," in a whisper! Isn't it cute how people whisper their answer back to you when you ask them about God!!! I guess it's a combination of fear and reverence, hopefully!

I told him there is a God, that I was a gospel singer and preacher, that my angels were all around this airplane, and that he didn't have to be afraid. At that exact moment, he sat back in his chair, semi-relaxed, and said, "that sounds good to me". He then began to complain about the food and the amount he had, said he was starving. The man was so empty and scared. I gave him some of my food and he devoured it, I told him if he wanted to talk, I would be right here, but, that I was going to read my book. The clincher for me was, I asked him if he had to take this business trip flying and he said no, that he was on vacation!

We can't give something away that we don't have ourselves. That sounds redundant, but, actually is profound. God gives us comfort and is the Source of comfort, then tells us to be quick to give it away. Remember in John 14, Jesus was going to be with the Father and said to the disciples, "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another comforter, He may remain with you, forever." This comforter, the Holy Spirit, will be a counselor, helper, intercessor, advocate, strengthener and standby for you.

Our Prayer: Father, in Jesus Name, thank you for the power of the Holy Spirit in me, thank you for giving Him to me, that He is my counselor, helper, intercessor, advocate, strengthener, standby, and teaches me everything.

Thank you for comforting me, I will give it away, Amen.
